Senior Power Electronics Engineer

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Power Electronics Engineer to contribute to the product development lifecycle of Brill Power’s hardware. You will join a dynamic team of engineers and report directly to the CTO.

Established in 2016, Brill Power is a founder-run startup with roots in the Engineering Department at the University of Oxford. Our first product for the stationary storage market launched in 2021 and we are looking forward to growing our impact and expanding to new markets. Job Overview

Your role will be to lead the electronics design of our product. Your first task will be to upgrade our current product to be suitable for high voltage (1 kV) applications. You should have experience with bringing a design from concept, through simulations, PCB designs, and testing.

Responsibilities Include

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Bringing new ideas to life: designing and simulating circuits, schematic capture, PCB layout, and testing
  • Optimizing existing designs for manufacturing
  • Interpretation of standards
  • Analyse requirements and develop design alternatives
  • Generate complete and accurate user and design documentation
  • Provide task breakdowns and accurate estimates for project planning
  • Assist in maintaining a positive and productive atmosphere within the team
  • Liaise with the software team to build a high quality product
  • Liaise with customers and users of our systems

Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with lab equipment e.g., power supplies, electronic loads, oscilloscopes, multimeters, soldering tools etc
  • Testing and debugging hardware/software issues
  • Experience with schematic capture
  • Experience with PCB layout
  • Experience with high voltage (greater than 500 V) design and/or testing
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
  • Familiarity with control concepts for power electronics
  • Familiarity with EMC concepts (good design practices, EMI debugging and testing)
  • Experience with embedded programming in C/C++ and other languages
  • Education level: Electrical/Electronic Engineering degree (or similar)
  • Familiarity with version control systems
  • 3+ years of experience working in companies or in a relevant research setting
  • Knowledge of the full development cycle
Nice to Have:
  • Experience with multilevel converter topologies
  • Experience with functional safety standards e.g., IEC 61508, ISO 26262
  • Experience with customer implementation of product
