We are looking for an experienced PCB Design Engineer to contribute to designing Brill Power’s hardware. You will join a growing dynamic team and report to our Principal Hardware Engineers.

Job Overview

You will join Brill Power as a PCB Design Engineer and contribute primarily to the design and testing of Brill Power’s hardware. Working closely with the hardware and firmware teams, the successful candidate for this role will participate in the various stages of product design from schematic capture to PCB layout and testing of prototypes. If you are keen to develop new technologies and work in a dynamic field, this may be the role for you.  You should be confident working autonomously while also being comfortable working with the team in a fast-paced environment.

Brill Power is operating a hybrid in office and working from home scheme. Due to the hands-on nature of this role, you will be needed in the lab for most of your work.

Responsibilities Include

  • Basic circuit design
  • Schematic capture
  • PCB layout design
  • Create PCB design package including Gerber, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings and other design files for PCB fabrication and PCB assembly.
  • Create, modify, and maintain part libraries based on component datasheets and drawings.
  • Setup and maintain Design Rule Checks (DRC)
  • Participate in design review meetings.
  • Work with the Hardware Engineers to ensure PCB layouts meet design requirements.
  • Work with PCB fabricators to resolve EQ/DFM or any other manufacturing related issues.
  •  Liaise with the mechanical CAD team to ensure PCB compatibility with enclosures and fixings.
  • Prototype Board testing
  • Hardware debugging and board rework.
  • Reviewing and improving HW design processes.

Skills and Qualifications

Must Have

  • Undergraduate-level electrical/electronic engineering degree
  • Experience designing multi-layered, mixed signal PCBs using Altium Designer PCB CAD software including schematic capture, PCB layout, active BOM management and CAM processing.
  • Interfacing with PCBA Suppliers
  • Development and maintenance of PCB CAD component libraries
  • Previous design experience with mixed signal boards with sensitive analogue, high speed digital, high voltage, and high current circuits
  • Experience with design rules and relevant IPC standards in at least one of the following:
  • Spacing requirements for high voltage PCBs (>800V)
  • Thermal management for high current PCBs (>100A)
  • Managing EMI
  • Knowledge and experience of PCB fabrication processes and technologies (materials, stack-ups etc.)
  • Experience and proficiency with electrical test equipment (e.g., power supplies, electronic loads, oscilloscopes)
  • Strong practical skills (soldering, hand tools, electronic/mechanical assembly)
  • Ability to review and select components for design improvements.
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Fast-learner and eager to quickly adapt and pick up new technologies and skills
  • Great communication skills and works well with others
Nice to Have:
  • Experience of controlled engineering change documentation process
  • Exposure to CFD thermal analysis software
  • Experience with 3D CAD software (design of enclosures)
  • 3D printing experience
  • Knowledge of simulation software such as LTSpice, MATLAB/Simulink
  • Hands-on experience with code version control (Git)
