I think we all can agree that 2020 has not been the year any of us planned. Even so, this year has been a very important year in Brill Power’s journey from Oxford University spin-out to where we are today.
A new look
While many of our 2020 plans were changed, we are still the same talented team working to change the brain of energy storage. One of our 2020 plans that hasn’t changed is an update to our look. We love our new logo and website, and you’ll be seeing more at events and newsletters going forward.

Launching this transformation has caused us to pause and consider the many changes at Brill Power this year.
Growth
Our team has grown, now totalling 16, with 4 new permanent team members added this year. We will continue this growth with multiple new roles already added to our recruitment page, and more will be added in the coming weeks. We also had some really impressive interns working with us over the summer, both remotely and in the office contributing their knowledge and enthusiasm for the work we do.
Covid safe
Managing through the ongoing changes caused by COVID-19 has been both challenging and rewarding. Our team has risen to the occasion and is as productive as ever. To help ensure the safety of our staff and community, we moved most of our team to work from home while maintaining safe operations for our hardware team in the lab. Our team is at the core of our success, so we have had daily video calls to check in on how everyone is doing and what they are up to. These, along with remote meetings has led to lots of discussion around mic quality, internet connectivity and debate over preferred collaboration tools, a debate still ongoing amongst our engineers: Teams vs Google Meet vs Zoom. We also have an ever-expanding list of communication channels that range from organising lunching gaming sessions on Fridays, to checking what parcels have arrived in the office on a given day.
Along with our team, we also expanded our lab space, converting offices to working stations to allow us to keep growing in this new work environment.
Conferences and events went virtual this year and we attended and participated in multiple events including Spark, Battery Tech Expo and will be attending Solar & Storage live and Cenex – LCV before the end of the year.
Innovation and moving forward
Throughout 2020 the team has been working on multiple projects and have recently kicked off three new projects, responding to the Government call to rebuild the economy in a sustainable way.
The year isn’t over yet, but with the launch of our new website, we wanted to take a moment to quickly reflect on 2020 so far, and inaugurate our new news page which will be a place to learn about the latest at Brill Power moving forward.
